Non-Trucking Liability (Bobtail)
The gap when the truck is moving but you are not under dispatch.
A carrier's liability policy usually covers you only while you are under dispatch. The moment you drop the trailer and drive home, that coverage can stop — and the truck is still on the road.
Non-trucking liability fills that window. It is sometimes called bobtail coverage, though strictly bobtail refers to driving the tractor without a trailer and non-trucking refers to driving for personal reasons.
Who usually needs it
Owner-operators leased on to a carrier whose liability policy only responds while they are hauling that carrier's freight.
