Trucking Insurance
Primary Auto Liability
Injury and property damage you cause to others while under dispatch.
Primary auto liability is the policy the public and the regulators care about. It responds when your truck causes injury or damages someone else's property while you are working — which, for a motor carrier, means while under dispatch.
It is also the coverage behind your federal filing. The FMCSA will not issue operating authority without proof of it, and brokers and shippers will ask for a certificate before they load you.
Who usually needs it
Every motor carrier running under its own authority, and any owner-operator not covered by the liability policy of the carrier they are leased to.
