Reefer Breakdown
Refrigerated loads lost when the unit fails rather than the truck.
Standard cargo policies exclude spoilage caused by the refrigeration unit simply breaking down — which is exactly how most reefer losses happen. The truck is fine, the freight is ruined.
Reefer breakdown adds that back. Most forms require the unit to have been serviced on schedule and the temperature to have been set and recorded, so keeping maintenance records is part of keeping the coverage.
